NATIONAL OPTICAL FIBRE NETWORK PLAN LIKELY TO MISS FIRST TARGET

(Indian Business Insight Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Bharat Broadband Network Ltd is unlikely to achieve its first target of connecting one lakh gram panchayats under the National Optical Fibre Network programme by Mar 2015 due to slow progress. The laying of optical fibre cable is going on at the rate of 500 kilometres per month instead of 30,000 kilometres per month needed to achieve the target of linking one lakh villages. The National Optical Fibre Network programme aims to link 2,50,000 gram panchayats in India with high speed Internet access. The project cost is estimated at Rs20,000 crore.
