NASA, Meet Wall Street: Human Condition Labs Hosts the NASA Space Apps Conference on April 22 in Downtown Manhattan

NEW YORK, April 19, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The 2016 NASA Space Apps NYC is joining forces with Human Condition Labs for an all-day conference on Friday, April 22. The livestreamed event--which will bring together technologists, venture capitalists, scientists, artists, and hackers—will include workshops, exhibits, panels and speakers such as Stephen Wolfram of Wolfram Research and Carter Emmart of the American Museum of Natural History. The conference precedes a 48-hour hackathon, also being held in lower Manhattan.

New York was the founding site for the Space Apps Challenge, and has for the last two years had more than 1,700 local member hackers who commit time to solving the NASA challenge to improve life on Earth and in space.

The day includes 4 workshops and 10 seminars on topics such as "Commercial Space Tech" and "Astrobiology and Exoplanets." Speakers include Sandy Carter of IBM; Caleb Scharf, director of astrobiology at Columbia University; Steven Gorevan of Honeybee Robotics; Jeffrey Manber of NanoRacks; and Shobhana Gupta, AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow at NASA.

In addition to the seminars, Human Condition Labs will exhibit a series of art, science and interactive installations. These range from actual prototypes of the EVA Space Glove from Final Frontier Design, based in Brooklyn, to composed sounds pieces by children from SciArt, to HC Labs Artist in Research Charlie Lindsay's Rocket Brain, which incorporates circuit boards and proximity sensors in a salvaged 1970s missile-guidance system.
