Namibia : TELECOM NAMIBIA introduces new, unlimited broadband service at up to 120Mbps [TendersInfo (India)]

(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Telecom Namibia has introduced new, unlimited broadband service at up to 120Mbps in certain parts of the nation. The new service is called Speedlink LitePlus and there are flexible packages varying from 15 Mbps to 120 Mbps. Most areas in Namibia presently have fixed broadband speeds of up to 10 Mbps and 4G mobile broadband of speeds of up to 100 Mbps. The nation's biggest communication backbone network operator also declared that its Speedlink broadband clients are in for a main update, as the firm improves broadband speeds by up to two times for free.

The firm first made free speed updates for all of its clients in May 2012 with the commissioning of the West Africa Cable System (WACS). Using fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) broadband technology, the 120 Mbps download and 40 Mbps upload Speedlink LitePlus service will be available immediately for households and businesses at Maerua Mall in Windhoek, the Swakopmund CBD area and the Omeya Residential and Golf Estate, with programs to gradually expand the service to other towns and business districts in the nation.

A nine-month user trial of FTTP broadband connectivity to homes was conducted at the Omeya Residential and Golf Estate, some 30 kilometres south of Windhoek, to test the service and make sure stability and dependability for clients. The trial, which ran from December 2013 to 30 August, involved 30 homes at the estate, and the results indicated that the service is capable of speeds of up to 120 Mbps, setting a new internet speed benchmark in the nation.
