Nairobi Branch Already Split Into Two Branches, Says Asembo
Feb 14, 2012 (Nairobi Star/All Africa Global Media via COMTEX) --
Football Kenya Federation Nairobi executive committee member Robert Asembo has come out to clear the controversy surrounding the split of the vast Nairobi branch into two. Asembo clarified that the split was not a proposal but a move that has already been undertaken, creating West and East Nairobi branches. "I don't know why there is too much fuss over the issue. This was not a proposal and we are not seeking anybody's input at this stage. We did our research where 88 percent of the respondents favoured the split the branch into two. Others even want it split into three," said Asembo.
He said the split has created a West Nairobi branch which has Langata, Dagoretti, Westlands and Starehe as the sub-branches while the East Nairobi branch comprises of Embakasi, Kasarani, Kamukunji and Makadara. Asembo said the federation followed its constitution which stipulates that no branch should have more that 150 clubs and also sets a minimum of 50 clubs for the sub-branches. He said there should be no one branch with more than five sub branches. Nairobi has eight. "Nairobi has more than 900 clubs and it is not manageable under one office," he said. "The split is neither about individuals nor politics. We just want an efficient structure that will enable us address the issues abound in the interest of the federation and the branches."
Asembo also revealed that it is not only Nairobi has been split. Coast has two branches, inherited from the previous regime while Central, North Eastern and Western have been split into two branches each. Nyanza and Eastern have been split into three branches each while the Rift Valley now has four branches. "This was agreed during our Special General Meeting last year and I thank the chairman Sam Nyamweya for implementing the resolution," said Asembo. "Each of the branches will be led by a sub-executive committee of eight officials."
