[December 14, 2009] Myriad's Java virtual machine used by Sony Ericsson in new Xperia X2 handset Tweet (Telecomworldwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Swiss software house Myriad Group AG today announced that Sony Ericsson, a handset manufacturer, has selected Myriad's Jbed Advanced Java Virtual Machine for the latest handset in the Xperia range, the Xperia X2. The company said that the handset used the Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system and the integration of Jbed will allow developers to write applications and services in either Windows native code or in Java. Existing Java applications can be ported to the Xperia X2, reducing development time and costs. The advantage of writing applications in Java is that it allows applications to be developed once and used on any handset or device where there is a Java virtual machine available, reducing costs for developers targeting a mass market across devices. The Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 handset features advanced email and multimedia capabilities with an improved touch interface and new 3D signature panel, enabling users to benefit from flexible desktop panels designed to categorise business, fun and communication features. No financial details of the arrangement between Myriad and Sony Ericsson were disclosed.
