Murray County: 'An engine to drive': Development Web sites

Matt Sanford calls the information he's working on for Murray County "an engine to drive" toward economic development. The information will be added to Murray's page on the state Department of Economic Development Web site at www.georgiafacts.net.
"It's part of the strategic vision plan for (the county)," Sanford said, mentioning Sole Commissioner David Ridley's push to bring development into the county for jobs, and possibly higher education through the wooing of a technical college, Georgia Northwestern.
Sanford, who is the transportation director for the county, said the information will spotlight Murray's land, vacant buildings and other properties that are available for a prospective business to check out. He called the endeavor "quite the process -- a tedious project."
"It involves site assessment and creating a database of available properties in the county," he said. "I met with Dinah Rowe (president of the Chatsworth-Murray County Chamber of Commerce) and got the background info, and then I made the forms (for providing information on properties) friendlier. The goal is to finalize a notebook of information and give one to Dinah and the other to David. The notebook will be a tangible thing to show to individuals who come in interested in looking at buildings."
Eventually Sanford hopes to "upload" all of the county's commercial buildings onto the Web site. People interested in having their building information placed online can contact him at (706) 463-2141.
