momondo data: Half of Americans Report 'Post-Vacation Blues'

According to travel search engine www.momondo.com, half of Americans admit to having the "post-vacation blues."

Based on momondo's third annual International Travel Survey of 1009 Americans ages 18-65, 49% of respondents feel "sad" or in "low spirits" after vacation. This is up from 39% via the same survey in 2015. Additional findings include:

  • Women report feeling more down after a trip than men (52% vs. 45%)
  • 60% of respondents say they bring home something from vacation as a "souvenir" of the vacation
  • 31% of vacationers plan several days after they return from vacation before they start work/studying/school again

In addition, the survey found that other popular ways to ease the transition are:

  • Sleep in later than usual (22%)
  • Eat healthier (19%)
  • Spend time with family and friends (18%)
  • Exercise more (16%)

"Many Americans go bac to the fundamentals of self-care to ease the post-vacation blues," said Lasse Skole Hansen, spokesperson for momondo. "Getting enough sleep, eating right and even cutting down on alcohol seem to decrease the stress of ramping back up to work or school. We've previously found that many Americans use searching for their next holiday to combat their post-holiday blues."
