Mobily's iPhone 3G put on the market

RIYADH, Feb 23, 2009 (Arab News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Mobily launched the state-of-the-art iPhone 3G at the Four Seasons Hotel yesterday. Launching the new phone amidst a large gathering of dealers and journalists, Mobily Chief Executive Officer Khalid Al-Kaf said that introduction of Apple's iPhone 3G in the Saudi market is one of the most important initiatives undertaken by Mobily.

"The launch will enable Mobily to develop the telecommunication sector within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by providing the advanced technology to its customers," he added.

Already some 25,000 walk-in and online customers have made their bookings for the new phone.

Al-Kaf said that his company has several "firsts" to its credit. "We were the first company to launch Blackberry phone in the Kingdom and we were responsible for several such products to be introduced in Saudi Arabia." According to the company, Mobily has the largest 3G network in the Kingdom, which has effectively reached more than 70 cities throughout the Kingdom. Mobily enjoys the busiest data exchange network in the world, said Al-Kaf.

Explaining the features of the new iPhone 3G, Al-Kaf said that it combines three products in one -- a revolutionary phone, a widescreen iPod and a breakthrough Internet device -- to create an incredible mobile experience. "With fast 3G networking, GPS mapping and support for enterprise features, including Microsoft Exchange, the iPhone 3G puts even more features at your fingertips," said Al-Kaf. "The groundbreaking App Store provides access to tens of thousands of applications, from games to social networking to financial planning and health management, generating more than 500 million downloads to date. iPhone 3G is now available in over 70 countries around the world." Al-Kaf said Mobily has targeted mostly the youth population and subscribers from small and medium-sized enterprises for the sale of the new addition. The younger generation invariably opts for a variety of features in their handset. "We have fulfilled most of their needs in this new product." Al-Kaf described communications as a strong market in the current global economic situation. "We will be one of the catalysts to improve the financial situation in the world." He said customers can now purchase iPhone 3G from more than 500 points of sale around the Kingdom through Mobily flagship stores and official partners.
