MIA Partners With TSA to Open Newest TSA Precheck Application Center

(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) MIAMI, Sept. 19 -- Miami International Airport issued the following news release: Miami International Airport (MIA) and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) this Wednesday announced the opening of an application site in the airport for TSA Pre, an expedited screening program that allows travelers to leave on their shoes, light outerwear and belt and to keep their laptop and a 3-1-1 compliant liquids/gels bag in their carry-on suitcase without having to remove them at the checkpoint.

The TSA Pre application process allows U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents to go through a pre-enrollment process online at www.TSA.gov and visit an application center to provide biographic information (e.g. name, date of birth, address, etc.), fingerprints, valid required identity and citizenship/immigration documentation and an application fee of $85 for a five-year membership.

"This application center will make TSA Pre benefits available to a broader population of travelers in the Miami area," said TSA's Miami Federal Security Director John Daly. "TSA Pre is enabling us to move away from a one-size-fits-all approach to transportation security and is another example of our commitment to provide both world class security and world class customer service to the public we serve." "Having a TSA application center inside our airport is a great convenience for our passengers," said Miami-Dade Aviation Department Director Emilio T. Gonzalez said. "We are happy to partner with the TSA to provide travelers an opportunity to sign up for this program and thereby benefit from an expedited security process." Once approved, travelers will receive a Known Traveler Number and will have the opportunity to utilize TSA Pre lanes at security checkpoints at 119 participating airports and on 11 major airlines: Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Hawaiian Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Southwest Airlines, Sun Country Airlines, United Airlines, US Airways and Virgin America. Travelers must enter this number on each individual reservation they book.

As always, TSA continues to incorporate random and unpredictable security measures throughout the airport. All travelers will be screened, and no individual will be guaranteed expedited screening.

Additional program information, including the ability to being the pre-enrollment process, can be found at tsa.gov. To learn more about the various trusted traveler programs offered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, visit dhs.gov/tt.

It is highly recommended that applicants visit tsa.gov to pre-enroll and establish an appointment. Walk-in appointments will be honored only on a first come, first served-basis after those with appointments are processed.

* Miami International Airport was one of the first four airports in the country to begin enjoying the benefits of TSA Pre expedited screening lanes in October 2011.

* TSA Pre expedited screening lanes are available at both checkpoints D2 and J central at all times. Lanes are open during peak times at checkpoints D3, E, H and D (CBP Federal Inspection Service area).

* Miami International Airport becomes the 27 airport in the country to have the convenience of a TSA Pre application center inside the airport; there are 450 commercial airports nationwide. More than 300 applications centers are located throughout the country, with the majority of those being off-airport locations.
