Aussie Company Makes Business History

25/11/2005

For the first time in retail history, an Australian software company today launched five products for homes and businesses into the Australian retail market - up against the IT giants of Microsoft, Symantec, MYOB and McAfee.

The products, all Australian developed by Sydney based GetData, include the world's most powerful PC data recovery software and a security product that blocks more than 50 security holes in Microsoft software.

GetData is owned and operated by two of Australia's top former police forensic corporate investigators and a world renowned physicist already has more than 60,000 clients worldwide.

GetData already has successful retail deals for its lead product, Recover My Files, in six European territories, Japan and the USA, where earlier this year it was rolled out across 1,000+ stores.

"It's a little unusual, coming into the Australian retail market after we'd cracked the European and US markets, but the reality is we were found first by distributors overseas and, of course, in sheer potential numbers, they're bigger markets," John Hunter, GetData's Managing Director and a former forensic police corporate investigator, explained.

"But the time is right because we now have more of our products ready for the retail market."

John Hunter, together with former Federal police forensic investigator, Graham Henley, headed the PriceWaterhouseCoopers computer forensics team investigating the collapse of One-Tel and HIH. The third director is Dr. Brett Hunter, formerly with ANSTO and is regarded as one of Australia's leading physicists.

GetData's powerful Recover My Files recovers more than 150 different file types and is now the world's leading data recovery product for home and business.

An extra product is bundled free with its lead products, Recover My Files, The Computer Security Tool and Recover My Photos, for the Australian launch.

The Computer Security Tool blocks more than 60 security vulnerabilities in Microsoft Windows.

It's other products coming into the Australian retail market are Recover My Photos, which gets back digital photos and iPOD music and video files, Burn My Files and Explorer View, which allows you open a second window in Windows Explorer and use and open any file within that window.

GetData is a wholly owned and controlled Australian software development company based in Hurstville.

The company has already won a series of Awards, including a Premier's Award for Export and a Consensus Software Award.

GetData's products will be available in major stores across Australia.
