Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Dubai Customs (DC) and the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs – Dubai (GDRFA) on Sunday organised a joint mass wedding ceremony for 83 employees from both departments.



Dubai Customs hosted the mass wedding for the 3rd successive year in pursuance of U.A.E.'s policy of supporting national young men and women.

The ceremony, held at the Cultural and Scientific Association in Al Mamzar, was also attended by Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman of DP World and Chairman of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, the Director-General of GDRFA-Dubai, Major-General Mohammed Al Marri, and Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, Director of Dubai Customs.


Bin Sulayem congratulated the newlyweds and wished them a happy marriage life. "The wedding is in line with the nation's policy to assist young U.A.E. nationals in all areas of life," he said.

Bin Sulayem underlined that the mass wedding organised under the theme "U.A.E. Shayaheen" (peregrine falcons in Arabic), follows the steps of the founding father of U.A.E., the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and are in line with the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, on cutting unnecessary marriage expenses and curbing extravagancies and excessive wedding costs." On his part, the director of Dubai Customs expressed his happiness with the social event and said, "this endeavour is a manifestation of the deeply-rooted values of brotherhood among U.A.E. nationals. Those same values that were seeded by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, founder of U.A.E." He also noted that "U.A.E. Shayaheen" mass weeding is one of DC's corporate social responsibility initiatives which the organisation always seeks to promote.

Khalil Saqer, Director of Corporate Communication Department at Dubai Customs and Head of the Mass Wedding Committee, said, "We launched the mass wedding initiative in 2012 targeting Dubai Customs employees, and for this year we have joined hands with the GDRFA, which reflects the spirit of government partnership." "A special committee was formed to set a bilateral event plan, including selection rules, conditions, privileges and incentives. In addition, we at DC have worked closely with the Successful Marriage Programme and Al Nahda Women's Association for providing the utmost support for the newlyweds and enable them to lead stable and tranquil lives." On their part, the bridegrooms thanked H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed for honouring their wedding ceremony which reflects the spirit of fraternity, compassion and solidarity in U.A.E.
