Mainland TV Makers Double Panel Procurement in Taiwan
BEIJING, Jun 08, 2009 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) --
Companies in the Mainland China double their liquid crystal display (LCD) panel procurement from Taiwanese electronics makers to USD 4.4 billion from the earlier planned USD 2.2 billion, Bai Weimin, secretary general for the China Video Industry Association (CVIA), said on June 7.
A procuring team, including nine renowned TV makers, Haier, Hisense, Skyworth, Konka, TCL, Panda Electronics, SVA, Changhong, and Xiamen Overseas Chinese Electronic (SHSE: 600870), recently visited Taiwanese panel makers, such as Chi Mei Optoelectronics Corporation, AU Optronics Corp. (NYSE: AUO), and Chunghwa Picture Tubes Ltd. The group of buyers, led by Bai Weimin, is scheduled to leave Taiwan on June 8.
The chief executive officer of AU Optronics promised that his company would strive to meet the demand of the Chinese mainland procuring team.
Demand for LCD panels on the mainland has been growing at a faster-than-expected pace following a series of household appliances promotion drives kicked off by the local government, according to Mr. Bai.
