The state of emergency declared by Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Babineaux Blanco as a result of Hurricane Katrina is in effect through Sept. 25, unless terminated sooner.

Also, the Direct Marketing Association has issued an alert regarding telephone solicitations in areas impacted by Hurricane Katrina.

"DMA members should be aware that under Louisiana state law, telephone solicitations [including those by nonprofit organizations] are not allowed in areas where a state of emergency is in effect," according to the DMA statement. "DMA members are advised to take weather conditions into consideration when planning and conducting outreach campaigns."
