LHS: LHS Achieves Best Ever BSCS Performance Results on Sun SPARC Enterprise Servers

Frankfurt, Germany, Dec 08, 2008 (M2 PRESSWIRE via COMTEX) --
LHS, a leading provider of telecom billing and customer care systems across the wireless, wireline, and IP telecom markets worldwide, announced today outstanding results in all tests of the latest benchmark of LHS' pre-postpaid convergent charging and billing solution BSCS iX Release 2. This includes the generation of 1.89 million invoices per hour, which is the highest value ever achieved. The benchmarking was performed at the Sun Benchmark Center in Oregon, USA on a mixed environment consisting of a high-end Sun SPARC(R) Enterprise M9000 server equipped with 64 SPARC64VI dual-core processors plus a series of Sun Fire(TM) T2000 servers equipped with Sun's UltraSPARC(R) T1 processor, all running the Solaris Operating System (OS).

Excellent throughput, latency, availability online The online charging test showed that BSCS iX Release 2 fulfills the highest expectations of a large carrier grade on-line charging solution in terms of throughput, latency and high availability. The system was found to be capable of achieving an excellent throughput of 15.66 million calls per hour combined with a very low average latency of 13.3 ms. More importantly, the latency distribution under full load showed that 99 percent of all transactions had a latency of less than 41 ms. This is the best value ever measured and significantly better than previous benchmarks, confirming again the real-time capabilities of BSCS iX Release 2.

Unprecedented offline results The 1.89 million bills per hour generated in the offline test once again demonstrated the solution's ability to support communication service providers of nearly any size while verifying the vertical scalability with up to 64 CPUs (128 cores). In addition, the customer management server was found to support 14,400 customer service representatives concurrently on just three Sun Fire T2000 servers. This result demonstrated a very good price-performance ratio using chip multi-threaded servers.

"The BSCS iX Release 2 architecture with its parallel processing capabilities was able to take full advantage of the massive computing performance offered by the SPARC Enterprise M9000 server," said Darrell Jordan-Smith, Vice President, Global Communications and Media Practice of Sun Microsystems. "This world-record result demonstrates the M9000 server's unprecedented scalability and flexibility in running large scale billing applications and highlights the system's ability to help telco service providers accelerate their businesses and gain a competitive edge," he added.

"With the excellent performance and scalability results of this benchmark, Sun and LHS have demonstrated, once again, our capability of delivering powerful and cost-effective convergent on-line charging and billing solutions for network operators of any size. Our common goal of providing our customers with the best possible service and performance at all levels has once again been achieved," said Dr. Jens Troetscher, CTO of LHS.

LHS and Sun have been cooperating for more than 10 years to deliver and continuously improve high-performance business support solutions that offer communications providers powerful solutions for their operations that maintain growth while protecting margins.
