LGS Innovations Awarded $7.3 Million to Upgrade Joint Base Lewis-McChord Network

LGS Innovations today announced it has been awarded a $7.3 million task order under the Army Infrastructure Modernization (IMOD) contract to upgrade the Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) network located in the Pacific Northwest's Puget Sound region.

Under the terms of the task order, LGS will engineer, furnish, install, secure, test, and migrate a robust fiber overhaul to the base's network architecture. The modernization effort, with a period of performance from May 2014 to April 2016, will significantly improve network resiliency as well as lower the cost of ownership.

LGS Innovations provided the best value with an innovative solution that supplements existing fiber optic cable. The solution simplifies the network architecture while creating a more robust coordinated network.

"This solution is forward-looking as it not only satisfies current needs, but also creates a cost effective foundation for potential future upgrades to a 40 or 100 Gigabit network," said LGS Innovations CEO, Kevin Kelly. "It will provide higher connectivity speeds to Joint Base Lewis-McChord locally, and allows the base to expand its services regionally to better enable our nation's warfighters as they train and implement America's combat power."

JBLM is the Defense Department's premiere military installation on the West Coast, providing world-class installation support to more than 40,000 active, National Guard, and Reserve Service members and about 15,000 civilian workers. The base also supports 60,000 family members who live on and outside the base, and nearly 30,000 military retirees living within 50 miles.
