LEAD: Weather satellite Himawari 6 resume operations+

(Japan Economic Newswire Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)TOKYO, April 17_(Kyodo) _ (EDS: RECASTING AFTER RESUMPTION OF OPERATION)

Japan's weather satellite, Himawari 6, has resumed operations and is transmitting weather images to the ground again, the Japan Meteorological Agency said Monday.

The satellite failed to operate from around 1 a.m. Monday due to glitches in its computer system to control its position.

The agency put the satellite back to its normal position at around 5 a.m., and it managed to resume operations by 9 p.m.

The agency said it does not know what caused the computer system to fail.

While the satellite was out of service, the agency used weather observation images taken by a U.S. satellite.

The suspension of the satellite's operation did not affect weather forecasts or issuance of disaster-related information, an agency official said.
