LEAD: At least 10 killed by car bomb near Baghdad+

A car bomb exploded Sunday near a Shiite mosque south of Baghdad, killing at least 10 people and injuring about 25, police said, according to the Associated Press.

The blast occurred in the public market in Mahmoudiya, about 30 kilometers south of Baghdad, a short distance from the mosque, police Capt. Rasheed al-Samaraie was quoted as saying.

No further details were immediately available.

Mahmoudiya is a religiously mixed city on the Euphrates river and has been the scene of frequent vehicle bombings over the past two years.
