The blast occurred in the public market in Mahmoudiya, about 30 kilometers south of Baghdad, a short distance from the mosque, police Capt. Rasheed al-Samaraie was quoted as saying. No further details were immediately available. Mahmoudiya is a religiously mixed city on the Euphrates river and has been the scene of frequent vehicle bombings over the past two years. |
