KABUL - At least 41 suspected Taliban militants and six Afghan police officers were killed in a 24-hour gun battle after Afghan forces, backed by U.S.-led coalition helicopters, attacked a suspected Taliban hideout in southern Afghanistan, officials said Saturday.



The coalition and Afghan forces attacked a suspected Taliban hideout in the Sangsar area west of Kandahar Province early Friday, based on intelligence information indicating suspected Taliban militants were gathering there to plan attacks on Kandahar, said Obaidullah, a provincial spokesman, via telephone.

---------- 13 killed, 26 injured in Indonesian train crash


JAKARTA - At least 13 people were killed and 26 injured after an express train crashed into a local train in Indonesia's Central Java town of Grobogan on Saturday, officials said.

Minister of Transportation Hatta Radjasa told local television Indosiar that the local train left the Gubug train station without permission from the stationmaster.

BEIJING - A Japan-financed personnel training center opened in Dalian, Liaoning Province on Saturday to help train workers for Japanese firms operating in China.

The center is the first business personnel training facility in China built under Japan's official development assistance program, according to the Japan International Cooperation Agency.
