ROME - A too-close-to-call race is under way between the center-left opposition coalition, led by Romano Prodi, and Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's center-right governing bloc Monday night after a two-day election in Italy, the Interior Ministry said.



As of 9:45 p.m., vote counting for the Senate ended at about 48,000 of some 60,000 polling stations across the country.

---------- Bush dismisses reports of Iran military strike option


WASHINGTON - U.S. President George W. Bush on Monday dismissed media reports that the United States is planning a military strike against Iran as "wild speculation" and reiterated the U.S. commitment to solving the issue diplomatically.

"What you're reading is wild speculation," Bush said, referring to reports in the Washington Post and the New Yorker magazine on Sunday claiming that the administration is studying options for military strikes against Iran to pressure Tehran to abandon its alleged nuclear development program.
