TOKYO - People aged over 65 accounted for a record 42.6 percent of deaths in traffic accidents in Japan last year, the National Police Agency said Thursday.

The number of deaths in the age group was 2,924 out of a total death toll of 6,871, a figure that fell below the 7,000 line for the first time in 49 years.

TOKYO - Police conducted an on-site probe Thursday of a Tokyo condominium built based on fabricated quake-resistance data in the structural plans.

The probe of Stage Daimon in Minato Ward marks the first police inspection of any of the buildings involved in quake-resistance data fabrication since the issue came to light in November.
