Jolata Launches Out of Stealth, Introduces Network Industry's First Real-Time Big Data Analytics Platform

SAN JOSE, Calif., April 27, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Jolata, a real-time big data analytics company focused on network performance optimization, today launched out of stealth and unveiled the Jolata TruFlow Platform. Jolata's TruFlow Platform is a software-based network analytics solution that identifies latency and other hard-to-find problems in physical and virtual networks. They enable operators to see precisely how a network is performing at any metered network node, and across any segment – with microsecond precision and in real-time.

Operators need to scale to transmit increasing traffic loads, up to terabits per second or more. In addition, new services like Voice-over-WiFi (VoWiFi), machine-to-machine, and Internet of Things are creating new and different kinds of stresses on networks. Moreover, the emergence and proliferation of Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) services have challenged telecom operators to address next-generation throughput issues with current, limited tools. Operators are losing millions of dollars because they are unable to accurately assess the quality of their networks, quickly determine root causes of problems, and intelligently optimize their infrastructure.

Jolata solves for this through patent-pending technology that provides complete, precise and real-time network visibility so network operators can improve service quality, reduce mean time to repair and exceed service level agreements. The Jolata TruFlow platform is the only solution to capture and track up to every single packet, or more importantly every network flow, as it traverses the network. It constructs multi-point flows in real time with precise measurements of throughput, loss, latency, jitter and other metrics at any point and segment in the network. Traditional network monitoring tools can't provide such a complete and precise set of information.

Jolata is led by CEO John Loiacono, who was previously Executive Vice President of Software at Sun Microsystems, nd Senior Vice President and General Manager of Adobe. Joining Loiacono as CTO is Charles Barry, PhD, who is one of the preeminent network timing experts in the country. Dr. Barry founded Brilliant Telecommunications – a supplier of next-generation packet-based network synchronization and monitoring solutions – which was acquired by Juniper Networks in 2011. Jolata is privately funded by ATA Ventures.

Jolata's software-based approach is vendor-agnostic and is available today. It has been tested and proven with one of the world's largest network operators and a major global stock exchange, and is targeted at network operators in telecommunications (wireless and cable operators), financial services (ultra-low latency trading environments), and enterprises where network performances are paramount to the business.

Jolata Platform Details

A typical Jolata TruFlow deployment consists of three tiers:

  • Jolata software meters, placed at different observation points on the network that capture, time stamp, fingerprint and match packets on the network.
  • An analytics engine that aggregates the data stream, learns and analyzes traffic patterns and behaviors, and alerts network operators when there are problems.
  • Visualization that displays the precise network metrics in real-time (less than 5 seconds), enabling operators to quickly drill down and perform root cause analysis.

Comments on the News

"Several monitoring solutions available in the network performance management market simply show the average traffic, statistics collection, and analytics without the possibility of identifying the root cause of trends," said Mariano Kimbara, Industry Analyst for Frost and Sullivan's North America Measurement & Instrumentation Practice. "There is a need to simplify management of complex, composite network infrastructures by monitoring all transactions from start-to-finish across physical, virtual and mainframe environments."

"It's clear that today's operators are struggling to accurately and fairly measure exactly what's going on in their networks," said Loiacono. "If you can't see a problem, you can't properly diagnose it. Seeing – with precision, in real-time, across any brand of equipment and across an entire network – creates the opportunity to enable new services and new revenue for the operator."

"Deep operational insights necessitate high resolution," said Dr. Barry. "Compared to alternative monitoring tools, Jolata delivers 10 times the resolution – at 100 millisecond intervals – and will work on any network architecture, including SDN and NFV. Future-proofing network systems has never been easier."
