Japan's top Foreign Ministry bureaucrat to visit U.S. on March 14-18+


(Japan Economic Newswire Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)TOKYO, March 9_(Kyodo) _ Vice Foreign Minister Shotaro Yachi will pay a five-day trip to the United States from Tuesday to hold talks with top officials there, the Foreign Ministry said Thursday.



During his stay in Washington, Yachi, the ministry's top bureaucrat, will meet with U.S. State Department and White House officials to exchange opinions on their nations' bilateral ties and issues of mutual concern, the ministry said.

Plans are underway for Yachi to meet with a number of U.S. government officials including U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Robert Zoellick, a ministry official said.


Yachi is expected to take up issues such as the planned realignment of U.S. military presence in Japan, the U.S. beef issue, the postwar situation in Iraq, the Iranian nuclear issue and efforts to reform the United Nations, the official said.
