JAPAN'S DOCOMO TO RELEASE GOOGLE PHONE AS RIVAL TO IPHONE
TOKYO, Jul 02, 2009 (AsiaPulse via COMTEX) --
NTT DoCoMo Inc. (TSE:9437) will
begin selling the first handset in Japan based on Google Inc's
Android operating system on July 10, offering a direct
competitor with the iPhone 3GS, which was released June 26 by
rival Softbank Mobile Corp.
Made by Taiwan's HTC Corp., the HT-03A features a 3.2-inch
touch screen, a built-in GPS (Global Positioning System)
antenna and a digital compass.
The service plan DoCoMo will provide with the phone will
take full advantage of Google functionality, including Web
searches, maps, e-mail, video and Street View, which allows
users to view panoramic pictures of their surroundings as they
move about.
With the 31,500 yen (US$326.27) discount that DoCoMo offers
for smart phones, the handset is expected to cost around 25,000
yen.
