[July 06, 2009] JAMG Expected to Win Coalbed Methane Exploitation License Tweet JINCHENG, Jul 06, 2009 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- Shanxi Jincheng Anthracite Mining Group (JAMG), one of China's sizable state-owned coal producers, is expected to be licensed to exploit coalbed methane in a mining area covering 300 square meters before the end of July 2009, said an insider. Presently, the company based in the northern Chinese city of Jincheng, Shanxi Province, is actively applying to the Ministry of Land and Resources (MLR) for the coalbed methane exploitation license. Domestic coal producers were allowed to turn out coalbed methane in the past, but the MLR announced on April 17, 2007 that the companies who want to exploit coalbed methane should reapply for the formal licenses. As for both coal and coalbed methane produces, this regulation is not perfect. For instance, the coalbed methane producers are likely to damage coal beds in course of their exploitation. On June 12, the MLR asked JAMG, China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), and China United Coalbed Methane Co., Ltd. (CUCBM) for their opinions on this problem.
