Exemplifying National Engineering Month's theme "There's a Place for You", Istuary has positively improved the rate of diverse engineering hires in the workforce. Although Istuary has made great strides this year by hiring more women as a percentage of its total workforce, they want to not only meet national availability rates but surpass them. The focus, according to Francois Guay, Director of Talent and Culture, is on two key talent areas; coaching, mentoring and promoting women from within Istuary, and recruiting the best young women coming out of Canadian universities. Within two years, Istuary would like to ee 50% of their leadership team made up of women. Additionally Istuary will work with leading experts in diversity to create a working environment to support and promote women. With over 50% of their workforce in Canada from various ethnic backgrounds, Istuary views diversity as making successful, economic sense.

Jean Su, Vice President of Engineering, Innovation Labs at Istuary Innovation Group, states "Diversity in the workforce is fundamental to driving fast-paced growth in tech sectors such as storage solutions, IoT security and Big Data. In order to be cutting edge, we need talented engineers who already view the world differently by being bold and already aware of global opportunities. A major piece of advice I can give to a young engineer is not to focus on just the trends but build fundamental, logical thinking. It's not just having the skills to do the job. It's how you think."

Initiatives that Istuary is working on to build diversity in the workplace include an All Women's Taskforce to implement leadership and hiring opportunities as well as collaborations with NGOs and academia to promote women in STEM careers.

Istuary will be hosting a talk in collaboration with UBC's Faculty of Applied Science called "Make the Change: Women in STEM TALK" on April 6, 2017. To register, go to https://www.eventbrite.com/e/make-the-change-women-in-stem-talk-tickets-33090283930.
