IronKey to Support Linux(Wireless News Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) IronKey, maker of secure flash drives, announced that its devices now support Linux, enabling users to initiate and utilize IronKey flash drives on all Linux-based operating systems. IronKey brings mobile data security to individual, enterprise and government users. Its combination of security applications and services along with hardware-based encryption deliver security for its USB drives, and protection of the data stored on them. Extending these capabilities onto Linux platforms provides a solution for USB data security to network administrators running multiple operating systems. Individuals who prefer open source operating systems benefit, as well, as they now have the ability to natively use the IronKey to protect their critical data. "We increasingly see corporate mandates for cross-platform capabilities, including compatibility with operating systems built upon the Linux kernel," said John Jefferies, vice president of product marketing at IronKey. "Delivering a Linux-compatible IronKey enables a new set of customers to greatly reduce the risks associated with lost, stolen or copied flash drives." Recent research has shown that open source software is used by over 70 percent of developers. Through 2012, the use and presence of Linux and other open source software will continue to increase at double-digit rates within enterprises already deploying it. Further, while Linux desktops are a small portion of current desktops, IDC reports that their growth rate will continue at a compounded annual rate of 30 to 40 percent. IronKey's cross platform capabilities and remote policy enforcement enable network administrators to deploy in heterogeneous environments with complete control. Available in 1GB, 2GB, 4GB and 8GB models, IronKey stated that its devices are easy to use, and there is no need to install software or drivers. All user data on an IronKey is encrypted with high-speed, military-grade hardware encryption. IronKey products support Linux distributions above Linux kernel 2.6 including Red Hat Enterprise 4, Kubuntu 7.1, Kubuntu 8.04, Hardy Heron, OpenSUSE 10.3, OpenSUSE 11, Fedora 8, Fedora 9, Sabayon 3.3, LinuxMint 4, Ubuntu 7.1, CentOS 5.1, and Gentoo 2007.
