Iran may pull out from NSG

(The Statesman (India) Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)Associated Press TEHERAN, April 24: Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad hinted today that Iran would consider withdrawing from the UN nuclear agency if membership produced no benefit. What has more than 30 years of membership in the agency given us? he asked rhetorically at a press conference. Working in the framework of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty and the agency is our concrete policy, he added. (But) if we see that they are violating our rights, or they dont want to accept (our rights), well, we will revise. The UN body, the International Atomic Energy Agency, has accused Iran of failing to answer all questions about its nuclear programme and reported the country to the Security Council for non-compliance with its demands. In another report, a top Iranian official said Iran is prepared to freeze its uranium enrichment for a short time, but this should not be construed as a readiness to abandon enrichment, a top Iranian official said today. Iran would not have a problem with a shortterm suspension (of uranium enrichment). But the difficulty is that the West and the USA would use that as an excuse for extending the suspension, said Hasan Rowhani, a member of the Supreme National Security Council. But Rowhanis statement was not immediately endorsed by other officials and it was unclear if he spoke for the government of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who gave a news conference on Irans nuclear issue a few hours later.

The Security Council has given Iran until Friday to suspend enrichment of uranium, a process that can produce fuel for nuclear reactors material for nuclear warheads. Iran has rejected the demand, arguing it is entitled to the peaceful use of enrichment as a signatory to the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty.

Israel cant survive: Ahmadinejad TEHERAN, April 24: Irans hardline President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said today that Israel cannot survive, adding that migrants to the Jewish state should go back to where they came from. Logically, this fake regime cannot survive, Ahmadinejad told a news conference in the latest of a string of verbal attacks against Israel. AFP
