International Social Entrepreneurs Pitch Anti-Poverty, Pro-Environment Start-Ups to Silicon Valley 'Impact Investors' Aug. 20 at Santa Clara University

WHAT:

Investor Showcase event, Global Social Benefit Institute (GSBI®) Accelerator
 

WHO:

15 social benefit start-up companies
55 Silicon Valley mentors
300 impact investors, including business experts, and philanthropists
 

WHY:

Culmination of 10 months of work between Silicon Valley mentors and social entrepreneurs enrolled in the GSBI Accelerator program. Social entrepreneurs are seeking funds to grow already successful, social benefit start-ups, including companies working in:
 

• INDIA, providing clean, affordable water for 500,000 villagers

• HAITI, converting agricultural waste biomass to renewable charcoal cooking briquettes

• SOUTH AFRICA, BANGLADESH, and NIGERIA, sending life-saving maternal-health mobile-phone messages

• SOUTH AFRICA, producing efficient biomass cook-stoves

• INDIA, installing 'bio-toilets' to treat human waste with bacteria

• NEPAL, training women to sell solar-powered lighting

• PAKISTAN, offering affordable health insurance
