Intel Opens Office in Lagos
(AllAfrica.com English Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)Lagos, Mar 29, 2006 (This Day/All Africa Global Media via COMTEX) --Intel Corporation has formally opened its office in Nigeria to serve the West African region, as Intel continues with its plan to increase its presence in the area and continue enhancing its supports for resellers, integrators and channel members.
John Davies, Vice President of the Sales and Marketing Group and General Manager of the Customer Solutions Group at Intel said, "The inauguartion of this office in Lagos is testimony to the potential of the Nigerian market and our growing focus on West Africa. We are confident that our presence in Nigeria will allow us to work more closely with regional government and market players to help enable the IT economy and promote the development of the IT sector and driving ICT education in West Africa."
"A key focus for our team in Nigeria will be the channel, " said Sam Mensah, Business Development Manager for Intel's Sub-Saharan African team. " We want to continue to develop our distribution network and increase our technical and marketing support activities for channel members to help them cater to the growing need for technology platforms in the region."
In his visit to Nigeria, Davies will also be involved in a number of digital transformation initiatives including the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Education to further the cause of integrating modern information and communication technologies into the country's education strategies; and attending Corona School's 1:1 Computing launch, Africa's first mobile e-learning school.
On the education drive, Intel is currently finalising the details of its "Intel Teach to the Future" programme in Nigeria, which is aimed at training teachers to incorporate the use of IT in their teaching.
Davies said Intel has always been active in West Africa through their work with the local channel." "We are also actively involved with international hardware and software vendors, as well as independent software developers to help create state of the art solutions in the region for the region." he added.
