Intas wins case against Arinna [DNA : Daily News & Analysis (India)]

(DNA : Daily News & Analysis (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) " Ahmedabad: In the battle of trademark violation between two Ahmedabad-based pharma companies, Intas has won the first battle when Delhi High Court ordered the other company to refrain from selling, marketing and advertising anti-epilepsy drug with similar sounding name.

As per case details, Intas is marketing Vlprol since 1991 and has been registered with trademark offices since 1997. The company generates revenue of Rs23 crore by selling the drug. Meanwhile, Arinna Lifesciences, promoted by Vivek Sheth launched a drug called Valrope, which is yet to be registered for trademark. It is ironical that Sheth is a former employee of Rs4,500 crore Intas.

Looking at the fraudulent nature of the company and the unethical practises undertaken by them, the court by its order has restrained Arinna Lifesciences for sale and use of Valrope the drug through their principal officers, directors, agents, dealers and distributors till further orders.  In a separate petition, Delhi High Court has further ordered appointment of local commissioners to take into custody infringing products bearing the name of Valrope and inspect the books of accounts of Arinna Life sciences. Further hearing of the case has been kept in February 2015.  Intas is a research based vertically integrated pharmaceutical company predominantly engaged in the business of manufacturing and marketing of pharmaceutical products and medicinal preparations for human and animal care.
