Industry-Leading Global Retailer Selects Empirix for Pre-Deployment Testing of Massive Voice over IP Rollout

Empirix's Hammer-based VoIP testing solution will help retailer successfully roll out VoIP to thousands of stores
From the VoiceCon Spring 2006 conference, Empirix(R) Inc., which helps organizations adopt complex communications solutions with confidence, announced today that one of the world's largest retailers has selected Empirix for pre-deployment testing of a massive Voice over IP (VoIP) rollout to thousands of stores.
The primary driver for the retailer's VoIP deployment is reducing cost through toll bypass and automated voice response. Currently, each of the retailer's locations receives an average of 500 telephone calls per day from customers seeking store hours. Each location requires one equivalent full-time person to answer these calls. After VoIP is deployed, when customers call their local retail store, they will be forwarded to a central location. Then, based on Automated Number Identification (ANI), a centralized IP-based Interactive Voice Response (IVR) application will automatically provide store hours for the location customers originally called.
The retailer - known for its innovative use of technology to drive efficiencies - will use the same VoIP network and IP-IVR to provide customer self-service for other divisions. Other VoIP-enabled services and applications such as video conferencing will be added in the future. By consolidating a myriad of existing telecommunications services into one IP-based network, the retailer anticipates significant toll savings, and streamlined service for customers.
The retailer selected Empirix, the market share leader in VoIP testing, to ensure that its new telephony environment will work as anticipated under heavy call loads, and to ensure that voice quality is as high as that offered by its existing telephone systems. Empirix's Hammer-branded test systems emulate customer calls into VoIP networks and then assess application performance, including precise measurements of availability, reliability and voice quality. Test results help organizations determine how they should tune their systems for optimal performance.
