INDIA HALTS BANGLADESH COAL EXPORT THROUGH SUTARKANDI BORDER

SYLHET, Mar 02, 2009 (AsiaPulse via COMTEX) -- Indian Border Security Forces (BSF) Friday halted the supply of coal to Bangladesh from India through the Sutarkandi land port.

This followed the bloody mutiny by Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) troops at their Dhaka headquarters that ended Thursday.

No vehicles carrying coal or any other goods could enter Bangladesh from India from Friday morning to evening.

Border sources said India would suspend coal exports to Bangladesh until the situation returns to normal.

Customs officer Nasir Uddin Bhuiyan told UNB that India suddenly stopped coal exports without any prior notice.
