Increased Focus on Skin Health Management Leads to Growth in Medline's Skintegrity Solution

Pressure injuries cost $9.1 to $11.6 billion per year in the U.S. with the cost of individual patient care ranging from $20,000 to nearly $155,000 per pressure injury. To help healthcare providers across the care continuum better prevent skin breakdown and standardize their product portfolio, Medline introduced the Skintegrity® program to the market. As a result of increased interest from healthcare providers, the global medical supply manufacturer and distributor has signed over 200 new program agreements, and has experienced more than $5 million in sales growth as a result of these new agreements.

Skintegrity, which is endorsed by the National Association of Healthcare Assistants' (NAHCA), is a total skin health solution that represents a long-term, sustainable approach that encourages greter attention to the health of a patient's skin at every stage of life. Because every person's skin is unique, Skintegrity is customized to meet their individual needs. The program offers customers a three-pronged approach to improving skin health:

  • Evidence-based products: Products are designed to support best practice and work in a complementary manner to help prevent skin breakdown and efficiently treat breakdown that occurs.
  • Staff education: The education emphasizes application of knowledge to practice and standardization of care across the continuum. Online training courses are available to program users through Medline University.
  • Outcomes management tools: Knowing that improving skin health is an ongoing process, Skintegrity's outcomes management tools will help evaluate a caregiver's participation in the coursework and identify problem areas within the education and program implementation.

"Skintegrity's comprehensive approach is setting a new standard in skin health. With skin being the body's largest organ, Medline is dedicated to providing caregivers with high-quality prevention tools," said Jonathan Primer, group president of Medline's wound care division. "The growth we've experienced with program contracts speaks volumes to the focus healthcare providers are putting on investing in skin management solutions."
