IEEE GlobalSpec and Capital Region Sponsor-A-Scholar Join Forces to Support Local YouthALBANY, N.Y., Sept. 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- IEEE GlobalSpec, the leading provider of digital media solutions designed to connect industrial marketers with their target audience of engineering and technical professionals, today announced its participation as a corporate sponsor of Capital Region Sponsor-A-Scholar. Through this program, IEEE GlobalSpec supports a Troy high school student's involvement in the organization's Pathway to College initiative and provides a paid internship to a Scholar currently attending college. With the support of IEEE GlobalSpec, one high school Scholar will participate in college visits, cultural enrichment, academic advising and SAT preparation, and will receive weekly academic coaching and homework sessions as well as stipends to cover test fees and Advanced Placement course fees via Sponsor-A-Scholar's Pathways to College program. "We are pleased to count IEEE GlobalSpec among our community partners," said Robin Christenson, executive director at Capital Region Sponsor-A-Scholar. "Its commitment to our Scholars and our mission is truly remarkable." "Not only does IEEE GlobalSpec sponsor a local college-bound student who is entering his junior year of high school, it also provides one of our college Scholars with a paid internship, where he has learned important skills on the job and is helping to support his family," added Christenson. Earlier this year Capital Region Sponsor-A-Scholar announced that 100 percent of its 29 graduating high school seniors have been accepted to collge this year. Sponsorship funding of the Pathways to College program aids scholars in both preparing for higher education as well as providing personalized financial support throughout the Scholar's college education. "The Capital Region Sponsor-A-Scholar program provides a great opportunity for IEEE GlobalSpec to invest in young people who are our future engineers, sales professionals, accountants, physicians, nurses, technologists, and business leaders," said Patrick D. Mahoney, president and chief executive officer for IEEE GlobalSpec. "We look forward to continuing to work with talented youth pursuing higher education, underscoring our efforts as a company to create a more engaged community of engineers and technical professionals."
