iDirect Cites 45% Share of Installed Remotes In Maritime Market
Dec 10, 2012 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) --
VT iDirect, Inc. (iDirect), a company of VT Systems Inc. (VT Systems), announced that the company's remote terminals account for nearly half of all VSATs installed in the maritime market, at an installation rate more than twice any other vendor, according to the newly released COMSYS Maritime VSAT Report.
In a release, the company said that the third edition of the industry report also finds that 14 of the largest 20 maritime service providers use iDirect's satellite communications platform, and these companies lead the way in almost all of the major market segments including vessels in the high end segments of cruise and oil and gas vessels. iDirect is a provider of satellite-based IP communications technology.
The COMSYS report, which details the growth of maritime VSAT services, confirms that iDirect is the de-facto leader among ground infrastructure providers and is emerging as the platform of choice for high throughput services, affirmed by partnerships with several major satellite operators, the company said. Further, COMSYS notes that iDirect's new X7 remote significantly raises the performance of its Evolution system to support higher data rates, challenging SCPC as the solution of choice for bandwidth intense applications.
COMSYS projects vigorous growth in the maritime VSAT market, forecasting that the number of vessels in service will double by 2016, bringing the total number of VSATs in service to more than 26,000. Market revenue expanded 9 percent in 2010 and 2011 and is now close to $1 billion, due to increased demand for bandwidth.
~ Simon BULL Senior Consultant, COMSYS: "iDirect continues to be the leading ground infrastructure provider in the maritime segment, both in terms of technological innovation and market share. With iDirect emerging as the high throughput platform of choice and with TDMA hardware achieving faster performance levels, it is hard to see how iDirect could be in a better position to take advantage of significant growth we are projecting for the maritime market."
~ Toni Lee RUDNICKIChief Marketing Officer, iDirect: "It is gratifying to see how enthusiastically vessel operators are embracing VSAT, and how it is advancing their operations. The introduction of high throughput satellites will open up an untapped segment of the maritime market and increase VSAT investments on the existing install base. That means greater opportunity for our partners worldwide, and we are making major enhancements to our platform so that are partners will be positioned to offer faster, more economical services."
