Hundreds to Rally at State Capitol During National School Choice Week

More than 100 school choice supporters are expected to gather in at the North Caroline State House during National School Choice Week to show support for their school choice.

The event, planned for January 23 at noon, will be a school choice celebration including parents, students, and teachers from many charter schools around the state. More than 100 people are expected to attend the event at the North Carolina State House.

The goal of the event is to spotlight the importance of educational options to North Carolinian families. The celebration is timed to coincide with National School Choice Week (January 21-27, 2018), which will feature more than 32,000 events across the country.

"A student's access to a high-quality school should not e determined by a zip code. Parents know their children better than anyone else," said Rhonda Dillingham, executive director of NC Association for Public Charter Schools. "With all the research about the myriad ways students learn, it only makes sense that we develop a broad array of educational options… The NC Association for Public Charter Schools is excited to celebrate National School Choice Week because it means education is moving in the right direction for our children."

The lead organization planning the event is North Carolina Association for Public Charter Schools.

Held every January, National School Choice Week is an independent public awareness effort designed to shine a positive spotlight on effective education options for every child. Through more than 32,000 independently planned events across the country, National School Choice Week raises public awareness of all types of educational choices available to children. These options include traditional public schools, public charter schools, public magnet schools, online learning, private schools, and homeschooling.
