HRDrive Software Provides Wizard to Implement Exempt vs. Non-exempt Changes

KPA, leading provider of dealership, service center, and light industrial management software and services, today announced the availability of an important update to HRDrive™, its human resources management software. This critical update includes an exciting new wizard which helps human resources professionals effectively implement exempt vs. non-exempt changes occurring as a result of the recent Department of Labor announcement making changes to Part 541 governing overtime exemptions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

The new rule includes a significant increase to the salary level used to establish exempt status. It also includes automatic future increases and a requirement for all employees to review their current compensation programs and make adjustments as needed to comply with the new rule. The new HRDrive Position Classification Wizard provides a simple "question and answer" tool that accurately determines appropriate classification by position. The wizard provides guidance for industry-specific classifications, for example service advisors within an automotive dealership.

As many as 4.1 million US workers will now be entitled to overtime pay as a result of this announcement. Companies are required to review the exempt vs. non-exempt status of all employees and implement required changes by December 1, 2016. Tools and resources to facilitate these management changes will help organizations make the right updates and avoid paying unnecessary overtime. The HRDrive Position Classification Wizard helps organizations clearly accomplish that goal.

Additionally, a critical part of the HRDrive solution is access to on-call and onsite resources including attorneys and certified human resources professionals. These experts have created online compliance guides and employee communication programs and have developed the rules engine for the wizard. They will be working closely with clients to ensure effective implementation.

"This change is the most significant update to wage and hour law in over a decade," said Kathryn Carlson, Vice President, HR Management Products at KPA. "We've already had many clients reach out to us for help with implementation. I'm pleased to be able to quickly provide an easy-to-use wizard to help them get their programs in place, avoiding the deadline and excessive overtime costs."

Kathryn will be providing a free webinar on the change, available to anyone. The webinar will take place Wednesday, May 25 at 11:00 am Central Time. She will cover the details of the ruling, the impact, and how to effectively manage the change. Register for the webinar today!
