HP aims to be LatAm outsourcing leader in 5 years

(BNamericas.com Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)US IT giant Hewlett-Packard (NYSE: HPQ) (HP) plans to be the outsourcing leader in Latin America within five years, HP Latin America services and corporate accounts manager Leonardo Mendoza was reported as saying by magazine IDG Now!

The company expects a 30% increase in its Latin American business in 2006 so as to surpass the market leaders, which US consultancy IDC considers are IBM (NYSE: IBM) and EDS (NYSE: EDS).

According to Mendoza, to achieve this HP must transform its outsourcing model, managing multiple providers and obtaining global standards for best practices.

HP will seek to differentiate itself in the capacity of its data centers, partnerships and in its Information Technology Management Software (ITMS) portfolio.

"In services in particular, we will grow between 4% and 6% in Latin America. Specifically in outsourcing we expect to grow 30% in 2006 and over the next few years," Mendoza said.

HP billed US$15.5bn worldwide in services, with US$9.70bn coming from IT services, US$2.80bn in consulting and integration, and US$3.0bn in outsourcing.

The Latin American unit has 2,100 employees, 822 of which are based in Brazil, and has direct operations in 11 countries. Total revenues from this region were US$640mn in 2005.
