Head of NSA, cyber security leaders coming to Augusta for education summit [The Augusta Chronicle, Ga.]

(Augusta Chronicle (GA) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Oct. 22--The top leader of the U.S. Cyber Command and National Security Agency will address leaders and educators in cyber security who are convening Thursday in Augusta.

Adm. Michael Rogers will be the keynote speaker at the Cyber Education Summit at Georgia Regents University. Rogers is the commander of U.S. Cyber Command and director of the National Security Agency.

U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss will host the event, which also includes panel discussions on the cyber security industry, higher education and government partnerships. About 600 people are expected to attend.

Monty Philpot, the director of federal relations for Georgia Regents, said the university and area educators will learn from experts in cyber security industries, the military and educational institutions that have established cyber programs.

With the relocation of the Army's Cyber Command headquarters from the Washington, D.C., area to Fort Gordon, Georgia Regents is increasingly interested in developing its cyber security curriculum, she said.

"If we do choose to grow in this way and develop a cyber curriculum program, we'd like to see what exists, where to partner, where the gaps are and how we can fill them," Philpot said. "Our hope is that we're ahead of the game instead of figuring it out once these people relocate." Educators from the University of Maryland, Georgia Tech, the University of Texas-San Antonio, the U.S. Military Academy and Kennesaw State University will serve as panelists and moderators during breakout sessions. Defense contractors Booz Allen and Raytheon also will be represented.
