Hanover borough website gets 'user-friendly' faceliftMay 18, 2013 (The Evening Sun - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- When Hanover residents visit the borough's website, they will see a number of changes. The borough recently redesigned their web page to be more user-friendly and offer online bill-paying options. Borough Secretary Dorothy Miller said the Hanover Borough Council staff was asked to "totally revamp the old site or construct a new one." "Staff felt there were so many new innovations in website technology available to take advantage of that it would be a loss to overlook the new dynamics that have come about in the last few years," said Miller, adding that the staff wanted updates and maintenance to the new site to be easy, quick and secure. Miller said she and Borough Treasurer/Administrative Assistant Cynthia Wyatt designed the site in-house at no extra labor costs other than finalizing details by the borough's technical adviser. While there was little spending involved to build the new site, Miller said there are some big changes to be seen. "The biggest addition will be the online bill-pay link for water, sewer and garbage bills, which should be connected very soon," she said. Also new are printable forms for permits and applications, contact e-mail button for questions or comments from citizens and more links to various community and government sites. There are event schedules for various parks and the upcoming 250th/150th borough anniversary events. "The site is also a great forefront to the community for out-of-town prospective residents and economic development," said Miller. Also now on the site is current Hanover Borough Council meeting minutes. Miller said the minutes are approved at the council meeting on the fourth Wednesday of each month, and the website will be updated after each of those meetings to reflect the newly approved minutes. Miller said the best thing about the new borough website is the overall look, with the borough's logo, contact information and navigation bars appearing on the header of each page. She said it "brings a whole new persona to the website" and makes it easy for people to find what they are looking for. ___ (c)2013 The Evening Sun (Hanover, Pa.)
