Grandville High School Sets New World Record, Advancing Twelve Teams to State VEX Robotics Championship

GRANDVILLE, Mich., Feb. 20, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- On Sunday, February 25, forty High School robotics teams from all over Michigan will compete at the State VEX Championship held at Michigan State University.  For the second year in a row, more than a quarter of those teams will be from Grandville Public Schools.

The Grandville High School RoboDawgs have dominated high school robotics in Michigan for the last two years.  The RoboDawgs are defending State Champions – and the team holds nine of the top twenty skills challenge scores in the state.  Two RoboDawg teams are ranked in the top 100 VEX teams in the world.  RoboDawg teams have been Champions or Excellence Award winners at every tournament or league they have played this season.

Grandville teams have had a great VEX Robotics season.  Our events, and awards from those events, include:

• October - West Michigan VEX High School Halloween Challenge –
• Seven of the top ten teams at this 40 team event were RoboDawg teams.
• RoboDawg teams in the top ten won 30 and lost 10.
• We were Tournament Champions, Excellence Award, Create Award, Build Award, Design Award
• October - North West Michigan GTACS VRC Qualifier –
• Six of the top ten teams at this 40 team event were RoboDawg teams.
• RoboDawg teams in the top ten won 33 and lost 9.
• We were Tournament Champions, Design Award, Robot Skills Winner, Judges Award
• November - Hudsonville Robotics In the Zone Tournament –
• Seven of the top ten teams at this 46 team event were RoboDawg teams.

• December - West Michigan VEX Holiday Tournament –
• Ten of the top twenty teams at this 60 team event were RoboDawg teams.

• December Grand Traverse Academy In the Zone Tournament –
• Four of the top ten teams at this 45 team event were RoboDawg teams.

• Five of the top ten teams at this 48 team event were RoboDawg teams.

• January - Jenison Robotics In the Zone VRC Tournament –

The Grandville High School RoboDawgs are one of the United States' largest and most accomplished high school robotics teams.  Grandville Public Schools has been a leader in educational robotics for more than 20 years.  Beginning with one high school robotics team in 1998, the program has now grown to include more than 90 teams based at the District's Robotics & Engineering Center.  More than 700 students participate on Grandville robotics teams, designing, building, and programming robotics for competitions around the world.  Grandville fields twelve JrFLL teams serving students in second and third grades.  The District's Lego League and VEX IQ programs field 22 teams made up of fourth through sixth graders. These students go on to participate VEX Robotics program at the middle school and high school.  Grandville High School also fields teams that compete in the FIRST Robotics Competition and the Great American River Race.  High school teams build autonomous vehicles to compete on land, water, and in the air.  This year, the RoboDawgs' high-altitude balloon program are continuing their efforts to achieve long distance sustained high altitude balloon flight through neutral buoyancy.
