Robert Bates will take up the role of executive chef when the Ellington, the new boutique hotel in Leeds, opens its doors in September. Bates, who at 28 is one of the youngest executive chefs in the country, joins from Monte Carlo's H?tel M?tropole, where he worked under two-Michelin-starred chef Jo?l Robuchon.



</a>Paul Davies has stepped into the role of general manager for the new 156-bedroom London Marriott Hotel Twickenham, which is due for completion this winter. Davies, who this month celebrates his 21st anniversary with Marriott Hotels, has extensive experience with the company and has held management positions in the Middle East, London and Reading. Before this appointment, Davies was general manager of the former Renaissance hotel in Reading.

The Conrad Bangkok has appointed Manfred Pieper as general manager. In his new role, the former general manager of the Hilton Guam Resort & Spa and the Hilton Tokyo will be responsible for the overall operations of the hotel and the Conrad Bangkok Residences. Pieper's career with Hilton Hotels Corporation in the Asia-Pacific region spans 20 years.


</a>James Berry has been appointed general manager at the new Park Inn Peterborough, which opens later this year. Berry, who has 11 years' experience in the hospitality industry, joined Park Inn in 2005 as operations manager of the Northampton Moat House, which was taken over by the Rezidor Hotel Group and rebranded Park Inn Northampton. Most recently he was general manager at the Park Inn Thurrock, a position he held since November 2007.

</a>Stefanie Miles has joined the London Hilton on Park Lane hotel as director of business development. She previously worked at the Hilton Kuala Lumpur in the same role. Meanwhile, assistant food and beverage manager Simon Amos has moved to the newly opened Hilton Beijing hotel.

Chris Tombling has become head chef at the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park hotel and will be responsible for overseeing culinary strategy and operations. Tombling, who featured on Masterchef as a coach to contestants, began his career with Mandarin Oriental at the Park restaurant, later working at the Landmark hotel in London and on board luxury cruise ships, before returning to Mandarin Oriental in 1997.

Ramada Jarvis has named Andrew Pring as regional director for the South of England. The ex-Hyde Park hotel manager is an experienced hotelier who began his career at Forte Post House Hotels and soon became one of their youngest general managers when he was promoted, at the age of 26, to head up the team at the Tregenna hotel, St Ives. In 2001 he moved to InterContinental Hotels, and five years later left to become general manager of the Ramada Jarvis Hyde Park.

Japanese restaurant operator Yo!?Sushi has appointed a new finance director to help implement its expansion plans. James Fowler joins the business from Whitbread, where he spent 13 years, most recently as finance director for its restaurant division.

Fowler also spent three years working as finance director at Costa Coffee when it was opening 60 new sites a year. Yo!?Sushi, which was the subject of a ?50m management buyout in March, aims to increase its number of outlets from 45 to 100 by 2012.
