GM, Chrysler to refrain from taking part in Tokyo Motor Show+

(Japan Economic Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) TOKYO, Jan. 14_(Kyodo) _ Struggling U.S. automakers General Motors Corp. and Chrysler LLC are expected to refrain from taking part in the 41st Tokyo Motor Show scheduled for October this year in Chiba, auto industry officials said Wednesday.

With auto sales plunging amid the global recession, the major U.S. automakers have launched restructuring. They may want to focus on developing new vehicles rather than participating in auto shows, analysts said.

The two U.S. automakers failed to register as participants in the biennial auto show by the deadline at the end of last year, said an official at the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association that is to sponsor the auto show.

But JAMA will welcome any more applications for participation in the show, the official said.
