Glynn Art Pottery hosting open house


Nov 20, 2009 (The Brunswick News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Glynn Art Pottery studio is throwing open its doors this weekend to show what happens when potters throw clay.

The open house, called More Than Clay and Chardonnay, begins at 4 p.m. Saturday and resumes at 1 p.m. Sunday at the McKinnon Business Park, off Demere Road on St. Simons Island.

"You can find a lot of Christmas goodies," said Debbie Craig, a potter and director of the pottery studio. "It's all very reasonable, one-of-a-kind pieces." Along with Craig, potters Pam Bailey, Beth Bohlender, Elaine Cook, Ann Marie Dalis, Marilyn Eigen, Jenny Hager and Betsy Wall will be availale to talk about their works.



In addition to the pottery studio, the adjacent Glynn Art Atelier and Quickle Studio will be part of the open house.

Glynn Art Atelier painters Betty Gerson, Louise Hooper, Lynn Sechler, Jackie Turbidy, Becky Tucker, Dottie Fielder and Janice Halderson will be in the studio. Their works will be available to view and purchase.


The Atelier is the newest addition to the Glynn Art Association studios. It allows artists to have a place to keep their supplies and to paint in the company of others.

At the Quickle Studio, sculptor Anthony Quickle will have on display some of his work that ranges from representational to stylized free form and in size from desktop pieces to monumental public sculptures.

Less than two weeks after More than Clay and Chardonnay, Glynn Art Association will open its juried members show, Holiday Art Treasures, Dec. 3 at its gallery in the St. Simons Island Pier Village.

If you go More Than Clay and Chardonnay, hosted by Glynn Art Association, will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at 213, 217 and 221 Skylane Rd., St. Simons Island. Skylane Road intersects Demere Road, south of East Beach Causeway. Opening of the members show Holiday Art Treasures will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 3 at the Gallery on Mallery, 319 Mallery St., St. Simons Island.
