Globecomm Systems Announces Multiple Awards Valued at Approximately $4.6 Million to Support IPTV Deployment Initiative
HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. --(Business Wire)-- Jan. 3, 2006 -- Globecomm Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: GCOM), a global provider of end-to-end value-added satellite-based communications solutions, today announced that the Company has received multiple awards valued at approximately $4.6 million to support a customers IPTV (television broadcast using Internet protocol) deployment initiative.
Telecom companies continue to focus on exploiting the increased convergence of all-IP communication networks offering their customers a compelling bundled triple-play (video, voice and data) service in an effort to stave off growing competition from cable operators. IPTV allows these companies to cross sell advanced video services in concert with existing voice and data offerings over their existing IP networks.
Globecomm's broadcast engineering and IP capabilities are resulting in multiple awards capitalizing on the early stages of this trend as satellite operators work with telecom companies to enable the delivery of video to the edge of the network and closer to the consumer.
David Hershberg, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Globecomm Systems Inc., said: "We are witnessing a revolution that is being driven by the rapid deployment of IP broadband networks. We believe that IP communication networks will shape the landscape of how the consumer receives content in the future and we will continue to invest in this area."
