GENBAND S3 Session Border Controller Recognized by Miercom for "Unmatched" Scalability Performance and Resiliency Benchmarks in Access and Peering Networks

GENBAND, a leading developer of IP infrastructure and application solutions, today announced completion of one of the most intensive performance and security validation tests performed against its S3™ Session Border Controller by Miercom, an independent lab testing facility specializing in networking and communications product testing.

With regard to the total number of subscriber registrations supported (600,000), the maximum number of simultaneous SIP calls (300,000) and call processing rates (~ 2000 calls per second) that the S3 demonstrated, this was highest scalability testing we have performed on any SBC product. The S3 also demonstrated outstanding CPU and memory utilization throughout all tests. We observed that these resources were rarely stressed and never maximized."

During the test, the S3 SBC demonstrated industry leading call processing performance of nearly 2,000 calls per second and processed 78 million SIP calls with a 99.998 percent success rate - while undergoing a continuous DoS attack - all without degrading call quality and reliability. For access deployment scenarios, the S3 demonstrated quick recovery from network outages or blackouts by registering 600,000 subscribers in less than 22 minutes.

Miercom subjected the S3 to extremely strenuou conditions to simulate real world attack situations and traffic spikes. The testing proves that the S3's robust security framework protects IP network borders by defeating a wide variety of attacks such as Codenomicon (News - Alert) SIP Torture, Ping of Death, PROTOS scan, Invite flood attacks, Response flood attacks, registration flood attacks and Rogue RTP attacks while allowing legitimate traffic to pass through and maintaining high performance and quality.
