Geekdom company member wins award [La Prensa (San Antonio, TX)]

(La Prensa (San Antonio, TX) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Waiting in lines that snarl out the door is a thing of the past.

Two local entrepreneurs developed and launched Storific, a free social mobile ordering app that essentially makes stores terrific by allowing people to view menus, order and pay for food via smart phones.

Additionally, the app lets customers know when their food is ready for pick up and includes a social tab that encourages social media sharing.

To sign up for a Storific membership, stores need an internet-powered tablet or computer to receive customers' orders and to notify them when their food is ready.

The app already seems to have the approval of the crowd, just last month they received the People's Choice Award at the M2M Evolution Conference and Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada.

As the winner of the award, Storific received $5,000, a Samsung tablet and a future partnership with AT&T and Samsung.

They hope to equip small businesses with internet-enabled tablets powered by AT&T and Samsung.

So far, 20 stores are using the app and they expect growth in the next few months.

Storific targets cafes, food trucks, fast-service restaurants, bars, and clubs. They plan to target stadiums and theatres next.

Co-Founders Kyle Cornelius and Zachary Stovall said the idea for Storific stemmed from noticing everyone playing on their phones while they waited to order lunch.

"We thought come on, we can do something with a phone to make this process better," Stovall told La Prensa. "So out came Storific." The app was originally developed in Paris, France, but they say the growth potential was in the United States, so they packed their bags and moved to the Alamo City four months ago.

Why the Alamo City? Well, Stovall is a San Antonio native, but the biggest pull was Geekdom, a technology focused incubator for people who are looking to start their own business.

Since they moved to San Antonio in June, Storific cofounders have spent every day at Geekdom, including July 4, which they decided wasn't so bad because they got a nice view of the fireworks downtown.

What keeps them coming back to Geekdom? Cornelius and Stovall decided there was a multitude of reasons, but the biggest draw us the collaborative community.

"When we need something the whole community is there," Stovall said. "Always willing to help, always looking out for each other." Moreover, as a part of the Geekdom community, every startup has to give an hour of their time to help other members.

"It's not just people coming and taking," Stovall said. "Everyone gives and takes, this is tremendous for startups." By Natalie Bob adilla [email protected] (c) 2014 La Prensa San Antonio
