Fish & Richardson Attorney Christian Chu Named Law360 2014 International Trade "Rising Star"

WASHINGTON --(Business Wire)--

Christian Chu, a 38-year-old principal at Fish & Richardson (News - Alert), has been selected as a 2014 International Trade "Rising Star" by Law360. The award honors attorneys under the age of 40 with notable accomplishments in their practice area. Chu is considered one of the top patent litigators practicing at the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC), and was one of only five attorneys selected for the International Trade Rising Star designation.

Chu recently secured two significant wins at the ITC for client LG Electronics (LGE). The first case started when LGE and InterDigital (News - Alert) reached an impasse in the summer of 2011 over a renewal of the parties' expired license agreement, with hundreds of millions dollars in dispute. After multiple concurrent appeals and rulings, LGE prevailed when InterDigital withdrew its ITC complaint against LGE onFebruary 12, 2014. Chu handled another ITC case for LGE in which the complainant sought an exclusion order and cease-and-desist orders against numerous products including e-readers, a navigation system, smartphones, and a portable game console. Chu took the lead in managing a joint defense group of 13 separate groups of respondents represented by 11 different law firms. On February 19, 2014, the ITC found noninfringement, resolving the matter in favor of LGE and the other respondents.

Chu currently serves as the vice chair of the Law Clerks & Students Committee of the Federal Circuit Bar Association. He received his J.D., Order of the Coif, from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law in 2001, where he was an editor of the Berkeley Technology Law Journal and his B.A., magna cum laude, in biochemistry from Harvard University in 1997.
