First medical transcription firm in Central Mindanao opens

(Business World (Philippines) Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) General Santos City - A medical transcription (MT) company has opened its doors in Sultan Kudarat, the first ever of its kind in the province, officials said on Monday.

Sam Acosta, information officer of the Department of Trade and Industry in Central Mindanao said IQ Scribe, the medical transcription enterprise, recently started operations in Tacurong City, about 90 km northwest from here.

Ramil Garcia, IQ Scribe administration and human resource officer, told BusinessWorld by telephone they have direct clients in Florida in the US and also does subcontracts for a Manila-based medical transcription company. He declined to identify neither IQ Scribe's foreign clients, nor the Manila-based firm.

The newly formed transcription company was organized by local residents of Tacurong with an initial investment of P250,000, Mr. Garcia said. He added that the investment was small since their location is in the province and that they have an available building they just renovated.

Presently, the company has a six-seater computer capacity manned by 12 employees 24 hours a day, seven days a week, said Mr. Acosta. Mr. Garcia said they are planning to hire more medical transcriptionists in the near term as the firm expands its operations. The firm is trying to catch medical transcription market via Web-based marketing or advertising.

Currently, he said they have been contacted by a group from Davao City for the establishment of another medical transcription company there. "One option we have in mind is being a consultant to that group who wants to put up a medical transcription firm in Davao ," he said.

According to the IQ Scribe Web site, the firm provides Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act-compliant outsourced medical transcription services to individual health care practitioners, small group practices, clinics, and community health centers. "We also offer comprehensive transcription outsource solutions or quality overflow capacity to larger clinics and hospitals," it added.

The firm said its management team is "composed of highly accomplished individuals who collectively bring decades of experience and an unwavering commitment to innovation, quality, logistics and total customer satisfaction."

Its consultants are general medical practitioners who specialize in different fields on medicine.

"They are continuously learning not just medical fields but also scientific and information technology practices in relation to health, medicine, and research," the company said.

Mr. Garcia said their medical transcription workers are paid the basic wage, plus a commission if they exceed the 500-line quota per month. Commission fee is P0.65 per line, he added.
