FBC Texas A&M Commerce Morriss

(AP Online Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) COMMERCE, Texas (AP) -Former Baylor and Kentucky coach Guy Morriss was hired Wednesday to coach Division II Texas A&M-Commerce.

Morriss, who was fired by Baylor in November 2007 after compiling an 18-40 record over five seasons, had been executive associate head coach for football development and offensive line coach at Kentucky State last season. He had a 9-14 record at Kentucky from 2001-02.

``He brings a wealth of football knowledge and relationships to our program,'' athletic director Carlton Cooper said in a statement. ``When we started this search, we were looking for a football coach to take our program in a new direction and build a program nationally recognized. We have selected the right person by choosing Guy Morriss to lead our football program.''

Morriss played in the NFL for 15 years, with the Philadelphia Eagles from 1973-83 and the New England Patriots from 1984-87. He was an assistant coach for New England and Arizona.

Morriss also coached at Valdosta State, Mississippi State and played college football at TCU.
